Squalo Latin Pro Surf in Ixtapa hotel options

Things are heating up here as the dates for the Squalo Latin Pro Surfing Tournament, the 6th stage of the Latin American ALAS tour, approach. The event is slated to take place at Las Escolleras in Ixtapa from September 18th through 21st. With less than two weeks to go, preparations are well underway for the event.

Las Escolleras point is part of Playa el Palmar, a long stretch of sand open to the ocean and lined with Ixtapa’s major high-rise hotels, and lies next to the breakwater from which it derives it’s name. Wave heights for the event are being forecast in the range of 1 to 3 meters.

The Ixtapa Zihuatanejo Conventions and Visitors bureau has released promotional rates for a number of Ixtapa and ZIhuatanejo hotels of all categories and plans, specifically for visitors arriving for the Alas Tour Squalo Latin Pro Surfing Tournament.

Rates are valid from September 17 through 21, 2008 and are calculated for double occupancy, taxes included.

Prices for the “Gran Turismo” hotels (Las Brisas Ixtapa and Melia Azul Ixtapa) run between $1,346 and $2,400 pesos.

Prices for 5-star hotels (Holiday Inn Ixtapa, Dorado Pacifico Ixtapa, NH Krystal Ixtapa, Barcelo Ixtapa and Presidente Intercontinental) run from $702 to $3,220 pesos.

Prices for 4-star hotels (Zihuatanejo Centro, Sotavento Beach Resort, Casa Sun & Moon, Villas Naomi, Villas Miramar, Catalina Beach Resort, Brisas del Mar, Irma, Tesoro Ixtapa, Fontan Ixtapa and Villa Mexicana) range from $510 to $1,538 pesos.

3-star hotel rates (Hotel y Villas Ixzi, Villas Mercedes, Casa Rosa, Solimar Inn Suites, Villas El Morro) are offered at between $499 and $800 pesos.

2-star hotels (Raul 3 Marias Noria, Casa Garrobo Townhome, El Tradicional VV Centro, Raul 3 Marias Centro) run from $350 to $400 pesos a night.
