Dia de los Muertos festivities

The Day of the Dead celebrations will be upon us in a few days, with flower-festooned altars (traditionally with the orange marigold, or Cempasuchitl, the flower of the dead, as well as the convoluted but beautiful blossoms of the Cockscomb or Amaranth flower).

Graveyards and individual altars will be resplendently decorated with these colorful flowers as well as paper decorations, icons, fruit, photos and a miscellany of offerings to honor the departed.

Calle Adelita will be hosting festivities starting at around 7 p.m. on the evening of November 1st, centered around the graveyard along the canal at La Madera, where there will be candlelight ceremonies and gatherings to offer up fruit, Pan de Muertos,  candies and other offerings. There will also be street theater acts, food kiosks and games and other activities as well as a Catholic mass.
