Zihuatanejo is gearing up for the 2nd Annual Trash Collection Tournament that will take place next month, with the aim of cleaning up the bay and beaches after the rainy season and of bringing recycling more acutely into the awareness of the community.
The Trash Collection tourney will be held on Saturday, November 8. Starting point will be the town plaza / basketball court on Playa Municipal in downtown Zihua. Kickoff is at 9:00 a.m.
The tournament allows for pre-defined teams to set out both underwater and along the beaches and shorelines of the community and collect garbage of all kinds. Teams collecting the most garbage will have a chance at a series of prizes.
Categories: Children, Teens and Open
Each team will consist of 5 people. The teams must provide all the protective equipment and materials they may require for their task, including: mouth guards, sunscreen, gloves, caps or sun hats, long-sleeved shirts, tennis or other protective shoes, swim fins and masks, etc.
Prizes will be awarded for those teams picking up the most trash. Awards ceremony will take place during Domingos Culturales, on the square on Sunday evening.
Enrollment is free through Radio Variedades.
Promoters are looking for sponsors for the event. Sponsors will have their logos included on the official tournament posters that will be posted around town to publicize the event, and optionally on T-shirts also being printed, depending on the sponsorship level.
This is a non-profit tournament organized by the Comisión para la Defensa de la Pesca Deportiva A.C.
