Mexico City’s Teatro de la Ciudad, Donceles 36, Col. Centro, will be the official seat of the inauguration of Africala, a festival featuring the films of many contemporary African filmmakers, that will run from April 22nd through April 26, 2009. This year’s festival theme is “All of Africa’s Faces”. The inaugural event, featuring special guest, Argelia actress and singer, Biyouna, is free to the public but assistence should be confirmed (see website below for more information).
Beside the presentation of a number of documentaries as well as fictional feature films, animation, film shorts, etc., both by African filmmakers and about the diverse aspects of Africa and her cultures, several special guests will be present at many of the functions. In addition to Biyouna, these include South African animator Diek Grobler, Rwandan director Daddy Ruhorahoza, Actor Amamadou Zerbo out of Burkina Faso, and directors Cheick Fantamady Camara from Guinea and Michael Raeburn from Zimbabwe.
