The fifth annual Acapulco International Film Festival (FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE CINE ACAPULCO) is coming up soon, slated for May 3rd through the 9th, 2009
Starting off with a Grand Premier in Mexico City, there will then be events in Taxco (with a special projection in the Cacahuamilpa Grottos) and Chilpancingo before the festival kicks off in its official venues in the Port of Acapulco, Guerrero.
The historical Fort of San Diego will host the inauguration of the festival in Acapulco with a Parade of the Stars on the night of May 5th, and with appearances and open-air projections also occurring simultaneously for the general public in the main square (Zócalo) of the port.
The festival includes the projection of a number of Mexican and international feature films, the winners of a short film competition open to students of the country’s film schools and colleges, and a number of other activities, acknowledgments and tributes to national and international film personalities.
Venues for the presentation of the official films of the Festival will be the viewing rooms of Cinépolis in Acapulco as well as open-air viewings daily in the Zócalo and other public spaces around town.
A special tribute will be paid to Mexican actor, Ignacio Lopez Tarso, with the projection of the film “Macario” in the same setting in which it was filmed, namely the las Grutas de Cacahuamilpa, (Cacahuamilpa Grottos), near Taxco in the hills of Guerrero, accompanied by the live sounds of the musical group, Payro.
Another of the personages to be honored at FICA 2009 in Acapulco is actress Isela Vega, who, along with Ignacio Lopez Tarso, will receive the Jaguar de Plata (Silver Jaguar) award, which is the highest honor bestowed by the Acapulco International Film Festival.
A special exposition on filmmaker Luis Buñuel be on view at the Fort of San Diego.
