The 22nd edition of the Jornadas Alarconianas (Alarconian Days) takes place in Taxco, Guerrero from May 22nd through May 30th, 2009, organized by the state government through the Instituto Guerrerense de la Cultura (Guerrero Institute of Culture), the Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (National Council for Culture and the Arts) in coordination with the Municipality of Taxco and the Patronato Ciudadano (city heritage group).
For eight days the silver city of Taxco in the hills of Guerrero State, Mexico, will be converted in a city-theatre where artists from Taxco and Guerrero, as well as the best artistic groups from throughout the country in the performing arts such as music, theatre, literature and dance, will be reunite
The opening event will feature a Gala Ballet presented by the National Dance Company of the Institute of Fine Arts (INBA), and the presentation of the Juan Ruiz de Alarcon National Dramaturgy Award to Carlos Solórzano, with a reading by Mexico’s premier actress, Angélica Aragón.
The principal venues in Taxco are Plaza Borda, the theatre of the IMSS (Mexican Social Security Institute) and Casa Borda Cultural Center, as well as other minor presentations in smaller plazas and parks around town.
