The Acapulco Philharmonic Orchestra (la Orquesta Filharmónica de Acapulco), will be coming to Ixtapa Zihuatanejo on April 10 and 11 to present free-to-the-public concerts as part of its program to commemorate the bicentennary of Independence and the centennary of the Mexican Revolution.

The first concert will be presented in Ixtapa on Saturday, April 10th on the vacant property next to the Flamingo Theater. The second concert, scheduled for Sunday, April 11th, will be presented at the Cancha Municipal (municipal basketball court) at the base of Cuauhtemoc street in Zihuatanejo. Both concerts are free to the public; both concerts will start at approximately 8 p.m. and will have a duration of between 1 and 1-1/2 hours, depending somewhat on public response.

Featured in the program of the Philharmonic will be a rendition of the piece Poeta y Campesino in remembrance of Emiliano Zapata, hero of the Mexican Revolution (April 10 is the anniversary of his death), and homage will also be paid to composer Ezequiel “Cheque” Cisneros, native of Petatlan, Guerrero, whose song “Cerca del Mar” is a favorite of all those who listen to and love the music of the Costa Grande de Guerrero.
