This week is the Taxco International Guitar Festival…
From July 11th through the 16th, 2010, the 13th Annual International Guitar Festival will be taking place in Taxco Guerrero, the lovely colonial silver center in the hills of Guerrero, under the coordination of the Centro Cultural Taxco Casa Borda and with the support of the Instituto Guerrerense de la Cultura (Guerrero Cultural Institute), the municipal government of Taxco and the Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (Conaculta – National Council for Culture and the Arts).
The festival will take place in the Teatro Juan Ruiz de Alarcón of the Hotel Posada de la Misión and the Ex Hacienda de El Chorrillo in Taxco, as well as in venues in the communities of Chilpancingo, Iguala, Tetipac, Teloloapan, Buenavista de Cuéllar and the Parque Nacional Grutas de Cacahuamilpa (Cacahuamilpa Grottoes National Park).
The concerts and activities of the festival are free to the public. There will be presentations by guitarists from Mexico, the United States, Costa Rica, Paraguay and Russia. This year special homage will be made to Mexican maestro and composer Selvio Carrizosa, who will be appearing at the inaugural event.
