The 2012 edition of Sailfest in Zihuatanejo, Mexico is scheduled for February 7 thru February 12, 2012, and promises to bring, once again, scads of fun and frolic to the shores and waters of Zihuatanejo Bay.
The tentative schedule posted on the official website (www.zihuasailfest.com shows the following activities slated for each of the six days of the festival. As always, Sailfest’s main aim, besides providing a fun time for all, is to gather funds for educational projects and schools in the area.
2012 Schedule (subject to change)
Tuesday, Feb. 7, 6 pm: Grand Kick-Off Party with live auction, T-shirt sales, event signups and live music. Location TBA.
Wednesday, Feb. 8: Pursuit Race on the bay during the morning. Benefit Concert & CD release party at El Pueblito Restaurant, 6:30-11:00 p.m.
Thursday, Feb. 9: The traditional Chili Cook-Off and Street Fair on Cuauhtémoc Street in downtown Zihuatanejo. Judge and enjoy the chili, browse the local crafts and baked products and pick up something special at the Silent Auction. Hours: 3 to 6 pm with live music following.
Friday, Feb. 10: Boats dress for a Sail Parade around Zihuatanejo Bay, then sail in formation to Ixtapa and back. 9:00ish-2:00pm. Sign up for one of the boats and help the cause.
Saturday, Feb. 11: Kid’s Beach Day, with a beach party and kid’s games on Playa Madera during the morning. Shade, refreshments and food available.
Sunday, Feb 12: Wrap-up Beach Party, awards, and raffle drawings, Playa La Madera, 4:00-6:00pm. Food will be available for a $100 donation.
