Troncones Beach and Environs Restaurants and Bars
Troncones, which includes Manzanillo Bay, is located about 30 minutes north of Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa off highway 200. With a dozen small Bed and Breakfast type hotels, sandy beaches with rocky points Troncones is a perfect day trip or vacation and surfing destination. Restaurants in this area specialize in the local seafood and Mexican-style cuisine, as well as offering a good variety of international fare.

El Burro Borracho (the Drunken Burro) restaurant has existed in Troncones beach since the early days of the community. For a long time it was about the only place to get a meal other than a couple of other small beachfront enramadas that served only fresh seafood and the most basic of Mexican snacks.

Although Troncones beach has evolved now into a long stretch of quality BnBs, vacation rentals, guest houses and hotels, many with their own food service or full restaurants, the Burro Borracho continues to be a focal point of Troncones life. Here you can get a good hamburger with fries as well as those wonderful fresh seafood specialties that are staples along our coast. Quesadillas, shrimp tacos, soups and salads - the Burro can satisfy pretty well anyone's palate, whether they want something typical of the region or something that reminds them of home. Of course, one of my favorite Burro treats is their Iced Cappuchino... made with ice cream, coffee and Kahlua, it's a perfect cooler for a long afternoon on the beach... During high season the Burro Borracho stages a colorful Mexican Fiesta every Sunday night, starting at 7:30 pm. This is a popular entertainment activity for visitors to the community and is well worth taking in during your holiday there. Reservations are required; please call 553-2834. You can also partake in the Burro's Friday Night Fiestas from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., with $10 peso beers, $10 peso house tequila, and $20 peso margaritas. As of 9 p.m. there's music from the 70's and 80's as well as reggae, salsa and a light show. The Burro Borracho is located at the southern end of Troncones Beach. Coming in from highway 200, turn left when you hit the beach road. The Burro is a few hundred meters down the beach, with ample parking out front. The Burro Borracho also rents bungalows.
