Zihuatanejo Hotels and Vacation Rentals

Zihuatanejo lodging including the areas of el Centro, La Madera, Almacen, Paseo de la Boquita

Zihuatanejo has grown, yes, but it is still a wonderful town with a distinct Mexican flavor nestled at the base of one of the most gorgeous bays in the country. Zihuatanejo is not a town of high-rise, all-inclusive hotels - all that is to be found over the hill in nearby Ixtapa - but rather Zihua is turning into a combination of a chic-and-luxurious-boutique-hotel-and-vacation-rental atmosphere mixed compatibly with the traditional small-and-cozy-unpretentious-beach-hotel community it has always been.

This makes for an interesting evolution in accommodations, and with the current construction boom, this shows no evidence of abating. So check out some of these great places to spend your next vacation on the Pacific Mexican coast...

El Centro

Accommodations in the central downtown sector of Zihuatanejo allow for easy, walking access to the majority of the restaurants, shops and services in the core of the city. There are a certain number of small hotels along Fisherman's walk and within a block of it, many offering rooms with bay views and plenty of ocean breezes. Lodging here is general inexpensive and perfect for those who like to spend their days watching the daily town activities while still being within a quick hop-and-a-jump from the beach.

Almacen

The Almacen area is on the other side of the pedestrian bridge back from the Municipal Pier, where Puerto Mio is located. It affords gorgeous views of the bay and recently has seen a jump in building activity, with a number of homes and condo developments being constructed on the hillside overlooking the pier and downtown sector.

Paseo de la Boquita

Paseo de la Boquita is the street that runs alongside the flood control canal past Playa Kioto and the Comercial Mexicana supermarket. It is mainly a residential area although there is a fair amount of commerce along Paseo de la Boquita itself and the couple of larger streets that run back from it.

El Hujal

El Hujal is a largely residential neighborhood on the mountain side of Highway 200 that bisects Zihuatanejo, running from the airport to Ixtapa. Although farther back from the beaches, many of the higher reaches of El Hujal have a distant view of the bay and very refreshing and constant afternoon breezes.

Madera Beach - Colonia La Madera

Madera Beach area has been a long-time favorite of visitors to Zihuatanejo. There are a series of small hotels and vacation rentals along the beach itself, some wonderful spots with great bay views and breezes along the hilltop overlooking the beach, and a lot of new places and construciton popping up in the second tier back that is still within a quick walk of the beach and also affords easy walking access into town. In addition, the Madera area is home to the restaurants of Calle Adelita (see Restaurants and Reviews) - a delightful series of small restaurants serving everything from simple local fare to gastronomic masterpieces in a quaint and friendly atmosphere.
