Zihua Sailfest 2010

Zihua Sailfest — the Zihuatanejo Bay Regatta — is coming up soon and volunteers are being sought to help get it all together. There will be a volunteers meeting  at Rick’s Bar (which was for a time Zihua El Faro) on Cuauhtemoc street in downtown Zihuatanejo, on Tuesday January 19th starting at 10 a.m. If you can and want to help and participate, drop on by.

Sailfest proceeds benefit the area’s schools and other educational projects.

Sailfest 2010 dates: Tuesday, February 2 through Sunday, February 7, 2010

SCHEDULE 2010

Tuesday, Feb. 2,:

Grand Kick-off party at Rick’s Bar. Live Auction 6-8 pm. Pick up a T-shirt, sign up for events, make friends and benefit the kids. Live music follows.

Wednesday, Feb. 3:

Pursuit Race in the morning, in and out of the bay. From 6:30 to 11 pm, Benefit Concert with local musicians, and CD release party at El Pueblito Restaurant.

Thursday, Feb. 4:

Chili cookoff and street fair on Cuauhtemoc street in front of Rick’s Bar. Judge the chili and buy local crafts. Silent auction 4 to 7 pm.

Friday, Feb. 5:

9 pm – 2 pm – Sail parade around Zihua Bay, then to Ixtapa and back. Fleet “dresses ship” for a colorful procession. Sign up at Rick’s bar to come aboard one of the boats for a donation.

Saturday, Feb. 6:

Kid’s beach and games day on Madera Beach from 10 am to 1 pm. Fun for kids and all with games, beach volleyball, coconut toss, sand castles, tug-of-war, etc.

Sunday, Feb. 7:

Wrap-up sunset barbeque and beach party on Madera Beach, 4 pm – 6 pm. Awards, raffle drawing, food by local restaurants. Food tickets $80 pesos.

Throughout sailfest, buy $10 peso raffle tickets for a huge variety of great prizes donated by local merchants to benefit children’s education. Draws held during major events.
