$25 pesos around downtown Zihuatanejo, $60+ pesos to Ixtapa
Hotel Zone, up to about $90 pesos to Playa Linda and Isla Ixtapa,
and around $250 to $350 pesos to the Troncones area. Contact
individual drivers for rates by the hour to more remote locations.

(per vehicle rate) or Colectivo transportation (shared transportation
at a per person rate). Rates to and from the airport start at about
$75 pesos per person for collectivos and between $120 and $150 pesos
per taxi, depending on the type of service.
Note: the exchange rate has been hovering around
11.00 Mexican Pesos to 1 U.S. dollar for the past while.

| Combis and Peseros, vans and mini-buses that run
on regular routes around Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa, are very economical,
with fares that are usually under $5 pesos to get anywhere they
go. These run on a set route and have regular stops.
The best way to learn the routes is to ride them, beginning
near the corner of Benito Juarez & Blvd. Morelos one block
from the food market in Zihuatanejo, which is the main bus stop
where most routes converge. |

Water Taxis make regular runs from the municipal pier
to Playa las Gatas. Tickets are available at the stand at the base
of the pier and are for round-trip fare. Public water taxis run
throughout the day until about 5 p.m.
Car Rentals are expensive, beginning at about $60
to $80 US dollars per day for a Volkswagen Bug. Suburbans
cost up to $200 per day. If you really want to rent a vehicle,
reserve it through your travel agent at home before you arrive,
this tip can save quite a few dollars. Many local rent cars
are poorly maintained so be sure to check for a spare tire and quantity
of gasoline in the tank before taking them off-pavement or on extended
trips.
Troncones now has it's own taxi and bus service that
run back and forth to the highway where one can connect to buses
into Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo. Troncones taxis run visitors between
the restaurants and hotels on Playa Troncones and Manzanillo Bay.
For longer trips in Guerrero and other parts of Mexico,
there are 2 bus stations in Zihuatanejo with economical and first
class service up and down the coast and points farther afield.
